Review of the Season Opening Concert

The Tagesspiegel writes:

“How the timbres of the different instruments intermingle! While Tibor Reman’s lyrical clarinet and Yulia Deyneka’s spirited viola paint the movements with seductively warm sounds, Daniel Barenboim takes care of a solid groundwork at the piano. […] Scanty and shattering at the same time is the reduced sound of Shostakovich’s Sonata for Viola and Piano, composed only weeks before his death: music falling apart. […] Yulia Deyneka and Daniel Barenboim play the sonata exactly like this, an introvert farewell piece that nevertheless turns to a bright C major at the end.”
